ASP.NET Performance Tips and Tricks for the Front-End
Thanks to everyone for attending my presentation at the Raleigh Code Camp. I was surprised at the turn out and you guys asked a lot of great questions. I wanted to post my slide deck for you guys. I will post a little sample project in the next day or so as well.
The Book I based the presentation on is High Performance Web Sites by Steve Souders. This book focuses on 14 points that every web site should leverage to improve web site performance. All 14 points are aimed at improving client-side or front-end performance. I tried to discuss them from the ASP.NET developer's perspective. I have some more Blogs about each of these topics planned, so look for them to come out over the next few months.
Personally I think the number one change we can make is moving JavaScript to the bottom of the page. But we also need to incorporate compression into our sites. I also think you should do whatever you can to combine all stylesheets into one file and all JavaScript into one file.
Again thanks to everyone who made the Code Camp a success. We had a great list of speakers, some great volunteers and many great attendees. If you could not make our Code Camp I do encourage you attending at least one Code Camp each year. They happen all over the country. In fact today Huntsville Alabama is having one today and next week Roanoke, VA is holding their second one.
Slide Deck - I think I finally got the URL correct! Thanks for all who pointed it out.
