Turn off Internet Explorer Enhanced Security

One of the annoying things I have had to encounter is working from a Windows server and trying to surf the web. What you find are a constant barrage of dialogs asking to add the site to a list of allowed sites. I hate this, I know why they turn this on by default, but I know where I am going and why, typically to download utilities, technical articles, etc. So after a long time of wondering I figured out how to disable this annoying security feature.

  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Open the Add or Remove Programs applet
  3. Change to the Add/Remove Windows Components
  4. Scroll down to the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration and clear the checkbox.
  5. Click Next and close the Add or Remove Programs window.
