The Socialist State of Maryland Places Sales Tax on Software Programming

In a crazy move the state of Maryland has decided to slap an additional sales tax on custom software development and other technical service work. Since I am not a resident of the overpriced and already over taxed state of Maryland I cannot say with certainty that Maryland residence are subjected to income tax confiscation already, but I think they are. So this additional 6% sales tax will just hurt existing businesses in the state keep up with the technology curve, especially small businesses.

If you know me, you know I already think we are over taxed, and I know we are not taxed as punitively as those in many other countries. So as ignorant elected officials cannot stop spending on their re-election campaigns, they go after those who through capital and intellectual investment and often just general risk find some form of success through higher paying jobs and careers.

So now when you price out a project that will take place in the state of Maryland remember to add an extra line item for the state sales tax of 6%. So when you order that $250,000 set of software licenses and the accompanying $200,000 custom service contract with it, make that purchase order for $462,000 instead.
