Mix Keynote Initial Impresssions
The main keynote just wrapped up and there were a lot of really cool demos and some offical announcements. The main thing is the official announcement of Silverlight and the .NET CLR being available in IE, FireFox, Opera and Safari, which means .NET can now run on MAC. I refered to this a couple of months ago and it is now true. All the demos were executed flawlessly on the MAC platform, which is a good thing.
Of the demos that really impressed me was the Major League baseball and TopBannana. In summary MLB is offering their real-time streaming service through Silverlight and streaming video strong enough to display on the bigscreen. The big take away I got from their demo and the NetFlix demo is that we can stream higher definition video over the web more efficiently now.
The TopBannana demo was really cool because it is a browser based application built in Silverlight that allows you to perform simple video editing in the browser. This will be a huge hit with teenagers and moms sharing videos with family and friends.
My battery is running low, but I will post more later with photos of the speakers and demos. Be sure to check out www.silverlight.net.
