2006 Predictions
It must be Friday, Chris is reading too many things! Anyway, I was looking up things on what is happening at CES right now. I found a pretty good blog that is actually doing video reports in HD no less. I noticed they had an entry earlier in the week for thier predictions for 2006. I thought I would post some of my thoughts on what will transpire in 2006 in our ASP.NET related world.
Yes Vista will be releeased - However, I have no time to contemplate what its meaning for ASP.NET will be. No doubt we can at least put it on our workstations and go faster and get disctracted more!
Convergence - One thing I do see that will come into play with web development in particular is bringing web related data onto non-traditional mediums. One of the big things I am hearing from people at CES (I actually TIVO CNBC Power Lunch this week) is that data and Internet will be brought into the livingrooms of the world. That means we need to really start thinking outside the browser and start thinking about the handheld/TV/Phone/Desktop.
Google, Microsoft and Yahoo will really start duking it out - Search is the next big thing. Man I wish I could Google stuff back in Junior High! Google is really starting to make things rich for everyone. Microsoft will really start pushing www.live.com and Yahoo will do its best to try and keep up.
Search will become real big - Not that is already is not. See the previous prediction, I know this is sort of redunant, but there is a opint to be made. Revenues generated by these search engines is tremendous and at a very high margin. They will push it to every limit they can find, including our livingroom.
Traditional Media will essentially become moot - That's right, not that they have not already done so. Their blatant biases and ignorance of what they are reporting on will finally do them in. Blogs and other new media will be the way to go. Old Media is based on an advertising model and so is the new media. It costs a lot to enter the Old Media (newspaper, TV, Magazines) and next to nothing for New media. Before you know it we will all be journalists to some degree.
China and India will be big in our world - Both are starting to get a middle class. China is starting to put away its Communist ways and accept the free enterprise model. Now if we can just get them to stop stealing our technologies.
Anyway, that is my quick predictions for 2006. Oh and I will loose weight, make more money, relax more and NC State will win a National Championship. OK, well I can at least loose weight, I did last year. =>
